Design 101

The Essentials of Great Home Design

Design 101 for those of us who aren’t quite sure where to start.

This downloadable PDF presentation will cover the TOP 12 basic concepts that every designer knows.  They aren’t secrets.  They aren’t costly.  And every one of them you can begin to work on right after reading.

For those of you who already have your house in order, there will be a thing or two to consider in your design journey.

And for those who consider themselves to be Designers Extraordinaire, here’s a quick refresh for the things that matter most.

This PDF Guidebook is the tip of the iceberg where design is concerned.  Each one of the 12 tips is a full course all on its own.  Start here and then you can dive deeper to a better understanding of how a house is put together, in a cohesive and functional way.

Trends may change, but the basics always stay the same.  Colors may come and go, but painted walls are always a design element that you want in your home.   Sofa design has changed over the years, but you still need comfort and functionality.  Kitchen storage solutions are always on point, but cabinet stains or paints are ever-changing.

Design changes every decade. Is it time for a refresh?  How long do you keep your wardrobe, your car, or your hairstyle? With quality furniture, you can make simple changes to the accent pieces.  Swap out the old rug, buy a new lamp, or change the design of your throw pillows.  Keeping things new and updated doesn’t have to be costly or difficult.

Because Great Design is always in style!

A house becomes a home when you add your personality and bring the love inside. It’s the memories you make with friends and family. The loud holiday get-togethers. The quiet moments with a good book.  The photos on the wall.  The hamper overflowing with laundry.  The dishes in the sink.

We can’t all have a house that makes the cover of BH&G, but we can all have a home we’re proud of.  Surround yourself with the things and people that bring you joy, and you’ll create a space that you love to come home to.

With this site and a little guidance, I want to help everyone to make their house a home.  One step, one project, one moment at a time.

Hi There!  I’m

Janet Danelia

I want to say Thank You for your support of my blog and for signing up to receive your free PDF download of “Home Design Basics”.

I’ve discovered over the years that the perfect Pinterest Pin home design magazine photos may not always be achievable.  (or sustainable)  And as inspirational as those images are, for the rest of us, we need to live in our homes.  We don’t have unlimited budgets, and we rarely have the energy to keep up that kind of perfection.

But there are simple and affordable things you can do to build the foundation of your home design.  Concepts and ideas to live by that will make your home beautiful and perfect for you.  When the orchestrated veil of what others see comes down, you’re left with what’s real.  And real can be both messy and beautiful at the same time.  Let’s build a home that’s real, that’s functional, that’s messy, and that is a place where you can take off your shoes, let your hair down, take a deep breath and exhale, and look within the walls to bring you joy and happiness.

Because your home should be the place that makes you smile and the place where you love your life.
